When my stylish friend Bina from By Sabine told me she had ordered a navy couch earlier in the year I thought that it was a really brave and unusual choice. Bina said no, that in Hamburg, where she is from originally, navy is a very classic choice, about as brave as me ordering a white couch. Later at home I looked around the room and realised there was a lot of navy in the fabrics I had chosen, even the black fireplace wall has a deep navy tone to it, not dissimilar to the wall in the room below. I had to laugh, sometimes you go down a road without even realising it. Then I looked through my Pinterest pins and realised there was a hefty dose of navy, with a bit of brass thrown in, there too. Made me realise that navy is really gorgeous, so thought I would share with you too. These pics above are from my home. I adore the Schumacher fabric and while it has many colours in it, the navy is quite a strong feature. I also adore the greens and the corals, well what's not to like about the Chiang Mai dragon full stop.I bought the ikat style fabric recently and only really noticed it was navy rather than charcoal once I was home. And ofcourse there is every shade of blue in the gorgeous painting by my mother. I love how the brass lamp looks against this painting. Even my husband wore his navy and white shirt when I shot this Whisky Ball post.
I adore the navy kitchen with its crisp white contrast and brass tapware.And the navy sea grass wallpaper from this master bedroom from this year's The Block is just divine too. We all know bronze and gold are so hot right now, and pink is too, it seems to have been rebranded as blush this year but it's still pretty pink to me. These lovely bits and pieces caught my eye this week.
I cannot trace the original source of this pretty image and I would love to see more of this room. If anybody knows where it comes from please let me know. I am loving the homewares that Target has had the last few months and the new range is great. Lots of colour and cool retro themed accessories at a really good price. I know Miss E would love some marquee lights for her room but they have always been far to expensive. I am loving the Target range at $40 a pop. Lots of yellow and pink, and I love the turned candle holders dipped in grey and white, and I adore the vintage travel posters!

Perhaps its because its wintery all of a sudden, the light seems cooler and colours faded, shadows are colder. Whatever the reason I am drawn to these images of light and shade.

Its not pink, its not gold, it is the current metallics trend softened and faded, it is eternally CHAMPAGNE. Nude with a shimmer, neutral with a hint of naughty, and I think its going to be big this year.
Its classic luxe again (see modern safari style here) - teamed with greys, natural woods and greens. (Above - Wit + Delight , Below - Vintage Revivals) Yes I know below is technically copper, but the overall design feels champagne. Great diy too.

Little Miss J is transitioning from the "tiny wee wee bed" as she calls it to a big girl bed, and I thought it was time to give her room a tiny wee wee update too. Nothing dramatic, just some little additions more suited to her age.
I don't want to change the pale blue rocking wing back chair, and am thinking of adding a touch of pink and gold to the existing white furniture, walls and curtains. I have ordered some pink and gold dot decals, just like the ones below from Urbanwalls, and I have bought some cute bedding from Pottery Barn to turn into some pillowcases.Triangle wall decals by Urbanwalls + Simply Grove, love the pink lettering too. Look I never write about fashion, but I could not resist posting about the gorgeous girls wear that Target has in for summer 2013. Girls 1-7 has a gorgeous selection of coral and navy, I could hardly choose there were so many pretty things, and the price was right too. I bought Miss J's summer wardrobe in half an hour.
I haven't even show the gorgeous T-shirts and jerseys because they didn't come out well on screen. Its worth popping into your local store before they are all snapped up.
Please Target, get these buyers to help with the ladies section, I would totally wear all these lovely dresses in my size.

I was asked to make some colour suggestions for a beautiful Victorian home that is in bad need of an update. At the moment the living rooms are an unfortunate custard and maroon which detracts from the superb high ceilings and lovely period details. The owners recently had lounge curtains made up in the lovely Morris trellis fabric (below). This traditional print has a lovely fresh colour palette which ties in with other green touches in the home, a perfect starting point.
If you have the luxury of traditional high ceilings I love rooms painted in two colours. A darker colour below the picture rail, and white above the rail, onto the ceiling and for skirting's and window frames. This scheme is traditional without feeling old fashioned and shows the volume and period mouldings at their best.
Recommendation for lounge area paint colours:- below picture rail porters paints herd- above picture rail, ceiling and trim porters paints chalk nsw
Taking the fabric as a base, white and grey seems the perfect solution, a classic combination that mixes beautifully with different accent colours and won't date like the maroon and custard combo has. The warm grey will really show off a collection of inherited bird prints, other pieces of art and furniture, and the gorgeous original fireplace complete with ornate mirror.
The kitchen is also getting an update to create more practical work areas and storage. It is separate from the lounge but linked visually and has its own challenges: yellow stained pine cabinets (to be changed) and light pink terracotta tiles throughout (to stay).
Recommendation for kitchen update: - continue the white of the ceiling from the lounge area throughout this area- paint base and tall pantry cabinets in a warm olive green (see inspiration board above)- remove all above counter cabinets and replace with thick white shelves (same colour as wall paint) that return around the corners (see below)
The olive cabinets will tone in with the terracotta tiles and the grey in the living room, and set off the rustic wooden kitchen table and sideboard.Open above counter shelves create lots of storage without enclosing the space, but they do need to be packed judiciously. Lots of white crockery, stacks of glasses and collections by colour as in the examples above. Coordinated rather than cluttered.
I can't wait to see the results. Simple changes that will set this lovely home up for her next 100 years.
