get this look...a little bit industrial, a little bit country

I love this kitchen with its mix of country and industrial.  What a really like is that this look could be created, quite realistically, on a small budget.  See below for what I would pick to create this look in your own home.

Replica Eames chairs, 6 for $390 
Yes I know replica is a little touchy but at $65 or less a chair they are a super classic bargain.

Tranetorp extendable table $299
Black or white would both work well, you could use a trestle table too.

Tom Dixon Lustre Black Ceramic Pendants, from $135
A little less used than the ones in the original picture, and I prefer the shapes too.

Subway tiles from $65 a metre, around $350 for a normal size back splash.

Glass vases and flowers (these Iceland poppies were photographed by Leslie at A Creative Mint), lots of white crockery, and the occasional collectible finish it of.
You can get similar industrial look cupboards and shelves at Ikea, but plain white would work just as well.

A really achievable look, and the main elements will cost you less than $1500.

Modern barn in monochrome

Yes I know you have all seen the lovely images of Ellen Degeneres' gorgeous ranch in Elle Decor already, but when I saw the interior it reminded me of some of my other favourites and I wanted to see them all together.  Vaulted ceilings, lots of white painted wood, and black or worn wood details all seem to do it for me.  

The rooms above and below are from Ellen's ranch via Elle Decor.  I think the triangular cowhide rug in ivory from Pure Rugs would be a perfect match.  I know I want it!

I wonder what the circle is on the far wall, something found and perfect. Another vaulted white wood ceiling, but this time with concrete floors.  This is a favourite room from a favourite blog, Emma's Design Blog.  I keep my eyes peeled for trees being taken down because one day I will make a tree stump stool on casters like this one.  It just needs this chevron cowhide in ivory to be soft under foot, from Pure Rugs again.

Above is a favourite home, I could move in tomorrow.  Lots of white with black details. This is one of my most favourite favourite kitchens, and that hat rack...perfection.  They are from a villa in St Barths and it's worth popping in here to see it all.

Who wouldn't love being in these open pared back spaces.  Just enough to be comfortable, worn and comfy and ready for living in.

don't you love.....industrial inspiration

West Elm I am in love (and they aren't paying me to say this so it will have to be unrequited love).  Hello industrial beauty, just when I thought I would never find a lamp that I like and can also afford, up you popped.

Could this oversize floor lamp from Ikea be a reasonable proxy?  Will have to see what it looks like up close next time I am in the store.  Sometimes they are nice from far but far from nice, but at $70 it sure suits my pocket.

I still love this pendant rusted metal pendant made by Joost (via Aibigail Ahern).  I made a similar one for our previous home but it didn't survive the move.  All you need is a roll of chicken wire, rust spray paint, and some pliers and you can make one too.  Effective, cheap and easy to make, you should give it a go.

Don't you love.....double the function

A friend of mine has had me thinking about furniture layouts for smaller living spaces, with fewer, larger pieces of furniture, investment pieces to use in a future home.

So I am thinking - dining table doubles as console or desk.

Reclaimed timber.... as kitchen wall detail

I adore this space!  I covet the chandelier (Ochre), Iceland poppies are a favourite flower, reclaimed wood detail in the kitchen, light flooding in, a fire place.  Heaven.Image via Elle Decor

The Voice of Reason has been working on our own wood wall detail today.  He has already built  two gorgeous reclaimed wood screening walls in the garden (a post for another day), but today he was working on a timber detail in our wine cellar.  We created a small cellar area off our kitchen and we want it to be a gorgeous little space, a secret detail you only see from the kitchen.   VoR is using left over oak floor board to clad the far wall, the oak now runs seamlessly across the floor and up to the ceiling, very hip Melbourne restaurant.

The space is changing before my eyes from bland to gorgeous, will keep you posted!
